Seeking an experienced Crime Scene Practitioner
The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences is excited to announce that they are looking to recruit an experienced Crime Scene practitioner to join the team to support the development of their work in the area of Crime Scene Competency.
Crime Scene – Technical Manager,
Responsible to the CSFS CEO, the role is home based but with regular travel across UK and to CSFS HQ (Harrogate). The role offers flexible hours with an initial minimum of 21hours per week with the potential to quickly increase up to full time within the first 6 months.
Initial 1 years fixed term contact (following successful completion of probationary period – potential to become full time /permanent) Salary range £30k-£45 pro rota, Company pension scheme, 25 days annual leave (pro rota). The key role is the delivery, maintenance and growth of the CSFS Competency assessment scheme for Crime Scene

Main responsibilities
- Work with the Quality & Competency Manager & Competency Coordinator to manage the ongoing development and implementation of the CSFS Certificates of Professional Competency scheme to a range of forensically related disciplines including, but not limited to, crime scene, fire investigation and forensic collision investigation.
- As and when appropriate attend internal, regional and national meetings in relation to quality management & competency assessment representing the Society.
Person Specification
Knowledge:
- Educated to degree level or with equivalent work related experience.
- UKAS or equivalent forensic auditors course is highly desirable
- A minimum of a Level 3 in assessing competence in the workplace or equivalent is highly desirable
- A demonstrable understanding of the forensic aspects of the investigative process
- Advanced knowledge of ISO Quality Management systems and the process of external accreditation, competency assessment and its application in crime scene science.
Experience:
- Extensive, in force, crime scene investigation experience
- Demonstrable knowledge of ISO17020 and associated regulations in a crime scene investigation
- Proven experience of successfully working under pressure to strict timelines.
- Experience of public speaking and presentations.
- Experience of developing and managing competency assessment programs as an assessor and/or assessment manager

- Ability to communicate at all levels, adapting the style of communication to meet the needs of the audience.
- Ability to effectively plan and coordinate projects to tight timescales.

- Ability to absorb, understand and apply new Forensic Science Regulatory requirements to the crime scene environment and make and enact recommendations as required.
