Scottish Biometrics Commissioner: Review of Functions – Consultation

Consultation closes on 26 May 2026

The Scottish Government is undertaking a review of the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner’s functions as per the statutory requirements under section 6 of the Scottish Biometrics Commissioner Act 2020.

Section 6 of the 2020 Act requires the Scottish Ministers to prepare and publish a report on whether the Commissioner’s functions remain appropriate, and whether the list of bodies subject to the Commissioner’s functions and his code of practice should be amended.

This is to inform you that as part of the review, the Scottish Government has today launched a public consultation which will close on 26 May 2026.

Further details and how to respond are available at: https://consult.gov.scot/safer-communities/scottish-biometrics-commissioner-functions-review/.

Please feel free to share the consultation details.

It is intended that the consultative response will help to inform the review, which must conclude with a report being laid at the Scottish Parliament by the end of November 2026.
