Science & Technology Ethics Advisory Committee (STEAC) Member Vacancies

The science-and-technology-ethics-advisory-committee (STEAC), a Home Office-sponsored non-departmental public body that provides  Home Office ministers with independent ethical advice on matters relating to biometrics, forensics, ethics and emerging technology and includes large and complex data sets (including systems which utilise artificial intelligence and machine learning).

Members of the STEAC are appointed on behalf of the Home Secretary (via the public appointments process) and are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments. The roles do not carry any financial renumeration other than reasonable travel and accommodation expenses related to STEAC meetings and activities.

The current membership reflects academic, policing, legislative, biometrics, forensics, ethics and AI. STEAC are currently undertaking a public appointment recruitment campaign to appoint two new members, with experience in policing or data analytics.
