Facilities
Enjoy our cutting-edge facilities and gain experience from our innovative range of learning methods that includes:
- Simulated casework activities; reflecting on in-depth knowledge of real life criminal cases.
- Crime scene practical scenarios and blood pattern interpretation in dedicated indoor and outdoor facilities.
- Laboratory practical skills; in core science subjects and forensic disciplines.
- UWL forensic science student conferences; drawing on the knowledge and experience of forensic experts from around the country including our own visiting professor in forensic Science.

- ESLA and Fingerprint and footwear lifting equipment and accessories.
A notable feature of our BSc (Hons) Forensic Science course is the large amount of practical laboratory work associated with core science modules in all years of the degree. Additionally, the opportunity to produce forward thinking research in forensic science in dissertation projects. The course also offers an experiential learning element with visits to external agencies, including forensic laboratories, courts of law, such as the central criminal court and different museums.
You will spend time working within industry in your final year. This is a valuable opportunity to gain skills and experience to enhance your employability. You will learn transferable skills that can be used not only in forensic science but in many other career pathways, including scientific, legal, and business. We also offer a four year programme with Foundation Year that’s designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to continue onto the BSc degree course. Throughout the Foundation Year, you will study a range of subjects than underpin subsequent study throughout your degree and will be encouraged to engage in a range of course activities whilst benefitting from full access to University facilities.

Study progression
On successful completion of this course, you may choose to specialise in a particular aspect of forensic science, for example becoming a reporting officer, scene of crime examiner, fingerprint expert, imaging specialist, accident or fire investigator or firearms expert.
