Professional Background
Gareth Bryon is a former Detective Chief Superintendent , whose career has embraced the investigation of crime for over 35 years.
He worked for many years as a senior officer in two UK police forces leading major crime investigations, heading up professional standards, conducting reviews of historical major crime and as the forensic services director for four UK police forces. He has lead major crime and critical incident enquiries in South Wales and across the UK for South Wales Police and the British Transport Police, and worked for the Forensic Science Service as their major crime and critical incidents consultant. He has worked closely with the Home Office on many national programmes including DNA expansion, HMIC thematic inspections, the national Street Crime initiative, and as an associate HMI inspecting on police integrity and corruption and the investigation of crime.
Gareth is a USA Fulbright Fellow and a visiting speaker at the American Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has lectured at the John Jay college of Criminal Justice in New York and is published in the UK Journal of homicide and major incident investigation. Gareth is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management He is a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council, and a professional member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.
Gareth was a founding director and Chair of the Forensic and Policing Services Association and Chair of their Quality Standards Working Group. He is an international lead auditor consulting to organisations helping them achieve and maintain quality management systems to BS and ISO standards.
He runs an investigative training company, a leadership development consultancy and is an executive coach to senior leaders in education and in the third sector. He is passionate about driving up standards in professional investigation in the private sector and in ensuring that small businesses involved in forensic science can achieve British and International Standards accreditation.
CSFS Background
Gareth Joined the Society in 2015. He has been the main point of contact for the CSFS on the collaborative forerunner of the generic Quality Management System initiative for Sole Traders and SMEs. Gareth was integral in the coming together of FAPSA and CSFS in the formation of the new Small Business Division
