Professional Background
Selina joined West Yorkshire Police in 2006 where her primary role is to code footwear marks and undertake screening comparisons for both volume and major crime casework. As part of this role, Selina is also involved with method validation and the development of a footwear mark ground truth database. Selina provides training to police officers and staff across the Yorkshire and Humber region in footwear mark evidence.
In 2013, Selina qualified as a podiatrist and joined the Forensic Unit at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust until March 2020. This opportunity enabled her to expand her scope of practice to incorporate footprint comparison (excluding ridge detail), feet-in-shoes comparison and forensic gait analysis which she now incorporates into her screening role with the police.
Selina spent 3.5 years at the University of Huddersfield as a Lecturer Practitioner in Podiatry. She has also been an external examiner for the diploma in Forensic Human Identification at the Academy of Forensic Medical Sciences and an external supervisor for undergraduate forensic podiatry projects at the University of Northampton. Selina continues to lecture in forensic podiaty and footwear evidence on an MSc module at the University of Huddersfield and presents at both national and international conferences.
