Professional Background
William Morris has worked in fingerprints since 1999, qualifying as a ‘Fingerprint Expert’ in 2003. During his 14 years working for Leicestershire Police he worked a range of cases, from volume crime to serious and organised crimes, including murders, receiving commendations for his work. In 2005-2006 he was the East Midlands ACPO regional representative for the User Design Team to design Ident1, the new national AFIS system in the UK. In 2006 he started working on footwear analysis, becoming dual-skilled. Thereafter, he was trained in footwear analysis to Advanced Level with the College of Policing.
In 2014 he joined the College of Policing’s National Forensic Training centre to deliver training in fingerprints, footwear analysis and courtroom presentation to UK and International learners. Following the closure of the forensic training centre he continued to work for the College of Policing on National Police Standards.
The year 2017 saw William move to De Montfort University to become a lecturer in Forensic Science. In Autumn 2019 he moved to Nottingham Trent University as a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science. His research areas of interest include fingerprint class characteristics, biometrics and expert witness standards.
CSFS Background
William Morris joined the Fingerprint Society in 2002 and the CSFS in 2014. He actively supported the merger of the Fingerprint Society with the CSFS. He was the editor of Fingerprint Whorld, the journal of the Fingerprint Society, from 2006-2007. He is currently serving on the Editorial Board on Science and Justice.
