Continuing with the 'Focus on Forensic Scientists' webinar series CSFS President Sheila Willis invites you to an informal evening Q&A with CSFS Honorary Fellow Ian Evett CBE.
Ian joined the Cardiff laboratory of the Home Office Forensic Science Service (FSS) in 1966 as a document examiner and joined the (then) Forensic Science Society in 1968. He rapidly developed an interest in the application of probability and statistics to forensic problems and returned to university for a postgraduate qualification in statistics. Since then his overriding interest – passion even – is the interpretation of scientific evidence in the context of a criminal trial. He has worked with a wide range of evidence types including: fingerprints, glass, fibres, handwriting, gunshot residues and, of course, DNA. The work that he remembers with greatest fondness was his membership of the team within the FSS that created and developed the Case Assessment and Interpretation (CAI) model.
He has a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Strathclyde and an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Lausanne – both in recognition of his contributions to forensic evidence interpretation. He was invested as a CBE in 2016 and is an honorary life fellow of the Society. Since the closure of the FSS, he has been an associate of Principal Forensic Services Ltd.
The event will be held on 15th April 19.00-20.00 UK time.
Please note an email with joining instructions will be sent out to you near the date of the webinar.
Webinars will be available on demand to all CSFS members after the event via the Member Area of the website. Non members who book events and are then unable to attend should contact nicola.schumacher@csofs.org to arrange on demand access on a case by case basis.
