The Society has been assessing and accrediting the forensic content of full degree programmes (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) in forensic science since 2004.
The Educational Accreditation Scheme now covers both the BSc (Hons) and MSc programmes and part-degree (foundation degree, diploma etc.) are covered by the Recognition Scheme. The Society acknowledges that there are Level three courses (such as BTec courses, extended diplomas) on offer where forensic science forms a significant proportion of the overall programme. The course would be eligible for Endorsement for the forensic science elements. However, the Society expects the course to be based on fundamental science (biology, chemistry, physics and underpinning mathematics) and with IT and communication.
The initial Endorsement Pilot Scheme has now run and Brooklands College have successfully been awarded Endorsement for the BTEC Level 3 Applied Science (Forensics) course. We are now moving into Phase 2 and will be formally launching the scheme.
