The role of assessor for the CSFS CPD Scheme involves knowledge of the aims and objectives of the scheme as well as specialist knowledge of forensic science as applied to specific disciplines.
Role Description
In particular, the role involves:-
- In-depth knowledge of the CSFS CPD assessment criteria (guidance on this will be provided to successful applicants).
- An ability to carry out audits of a variety of courses at various levels (in your subject specialism) to determine whether the quality of information is being delivered as per the training provider’s application.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to engage with trainers and students as well as other assessors and members of the CSFS CPC and CPD Sub-Committee and Quality Standards Committee, and staff of the Society, in relation to duties and responsibilities of an assessor.
- The ability to write clear, concise and accurate reports.
- The ability to conduct assessments objectively and to remain professional at all times.
- A commitment to the CSFS as the professional body for Forensic Practitioners and adherence to its Code of Conduct.
- A professional approach to the work of an assessor, including keeping appointments with prospective and existing clients.
- A commitment to attend Assessors’ meetings and meetings of the CPD and CPC Sub-Committee or Quality Standards Committee (if appropriate).
- Willingness to proactively feedback ideas to the Society.
- To provide a short mini CV (150 words) to the Society and a photograph for publication on its website.
- Assessors may be required to attend externally provided CPD events for QA purposes.
Person Specification
Successful applicants will have demonstrated via their application that, to the satisfaction of both the Quality Standards Committee and the Council of the Society, they are held in good standing within their own profession. Furthermore, they will have demonstrated the attributes listed under either of the headings given below
Practitioner:
Currently working as a competent practitioner or practitioner manager within the specialty in which they wish to act as an assessor.
- Sufficiently skilled practitioner to prepare effective reports/statements for court and make effective appearances in court as a witness as and when required to do so.
- Experience of, or significant exposure to, different disciplines.
- Preferably have previous assessment experience, albeit within a practitioner environment.
Academic:
- Currently teaching on a forensic degree course (BSc/MSc).
- Has had substantial input to the design of a forensic degree course.
- Has science degree and either a PhD or at demonstrable high-level forensic competence gained outside academia.
- Currently employed by a higher education institution on at least a 50% basis as a lecturer or above.
