Professional Background
Having left the Merchant Navy as a Navigational Officer in 1984 Ashley worked for the Metropolitan Police as a Scenes of Crime and Identification Officer for 16 years, including three years on specialist operations with the Flying Squad. He then moved to Thames Valley Police as a Senior Scenes of Crime Officer and then on to Bedfordshire Police as the Head of Scenes of Crime.
In 2006 an opportunity to work in the international market arose and Ashley took on a Training and Mentoring Role as an International Police Advisor at the Iraqi Police College, followed by a Senior Lecturer and Forensic Advisor position at the Special Anti Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago.
On his return to the UK he was then the Operations Manager for the Crime Scene Investigation Unit in Nottinghamshire Police and then Principal Forensic Investigator (crime scene) for West Mercia Police.
In 2013 Ashley took up the international challenge again and was the Detective Inspector Head of Forensics for the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force in the British Virgin Island.
Ashley has returned to the UK and is currently working as a consultant trading as AB Forensics. He continues in his role as Chairman of the UK Caribbean Overseas Territories Forensic Working Group, forensic capability and competency building project (covering Anguilla, Montserrat, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Turks and Caicos and the British Virgin Islands). He is an active member of the International Crime Scene Investigators Association (ICSIA) and is currently developing international CSI training standards as part of the ICSIA training board remit.
CSFS Background
Ashley joined the original Forensic Science Society in 1998, when he obtained a distinction in the Postgraduate Diploma in Crime Scene Examination. Having settled back in the UK he is looking forward to being an active professional in the Society again.
