Professional Background
Prior to joining the University of Derby, Adam spent over 13 years employed by The Forensic Science Service. He began his career in Research and Development, developing new methods for identifying humans from their DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). In later years he moved into Operational Forensic Science undertaking forensic casework, specialising in the detection, enhancement and recovery of fingermarks as well as other evidential material. As part of his operational demands, he completed an 18 month attachment with West Midlands Police Fingerprint Bureau as a Fingerprint Comparison Officer. He joined the University of Derby in January 2011 and teaches many aspects of Forensic Science across all three years of their Forensic Science undergraduate degree programmes. He is now Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in Forensic Science and specialise in the teaching of advanced DNA technologies, fingerprint detection, enhancement and comparison.
CSFS Background
Adam joined the Chartered Society of Forensic Science in 2014 and is the University's lead contact. As Programme Leader, he liaises closely with the Society to ensure their programmes are fully accredited. Additionally, he was an external assessor for the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences ‘Pre-employment Assessment of Competence (PEAC)’ award, which he contributed towards in its design and implementation and is a current assessor for the Educational Accreditation Scheme.
