All Society events and other registered by outside organisations also carry CPD points.
The aim of CPD is to enable you to stay current and develop within your current roles and where appropriate, develop new skills required to gain promotion. Everyone should reflect on their ongoing learning to ensure they gain full advantage.
All Society led conferences, seminars, lectures and workshops are CPD approved (1.5 points per delivery hour). In Phase 2 of our exciting new IT developments Members CPD logs will be automatically updated with all relevant CPD points from all Society events that they attend.
The Society has endeavoured to provide opportunities for professional development since it was founded in 1959, and this currently takes the form of regular scientific conferences where knowledge and practice is shared and delegates can network with other forensic professionals; provision of a range of professional diplomas that are specific to a field of work (i.e. Crime Scene diploma) and publication of a peer reviewed journal and circulation of this to members. However, developing a more structured and professionally integrated continuing professional development scheme is a relatively new venture for the Society. We are currently communicating with related professional bodies in order to develop a robust yet interlinked framework for CPD. To date, we have identified activities that would be considered as CPD for forensic professionals and we have made significant progress in developing a system by which professional credits could be awarded for each of these activities. This is ongoing and more information will be provided as soon as it is available.
