Following on from the fantastic SSD Operations Conference in Netley on the 22nd September you will now have received the details of your CSFS membership package and hopefully you are already seeing the benefits.
As presented at this event Hampshire Constabulary have engaged with CSFS to work with them on the implementation of a three year program to assess and manage competence and professional development. As part of this initiative they have funded 3 years membership for you. This is a great way to show that they are investing in you and are keen for you to personally benefit from the implementation of ISO 17020
You have initially been enrolled as an Affiliate and the aim is that by the end of the first three years that everyone will have been accepted as a Professional member. You can see the full list of benefits for all levels of CSFS membership by going to the membership area of the website. Those of you who were already Professional members will already have the enhanced benefits and now you will get your membership paid for until the end of September 2019.
Professional members of CSFS are eligible to use the post nominal MCSFS and benefit from greater access to peer reviewed journals all of which can assist in your self learning and professional development. For Hampshire CSIs Jon Gadd will act as your first referee we will need the name and contact details of a a second person who can speak to your work experience- ideally this should be a direct line manager or supervisor. At the launch we presented some details of the Society and looked at the structure that the compentence assessment will take. You can view the full powerpoint again if you wish. Accreditation and Competence We ran a pilot scheme in July allowing us to fine tune the process - everyone will be assessed throughout December and January. The process is the same for everyone, the practical assessment is tailored to assess your competence to carry out your role. The aim is to demonstrate the skills you have and identify areas where the force as a whole should be supporting your development. The full process will take 3 years with full reassessment in year 4. The aim is that by that time everyone will be in a position to work towards attaining Chartered Forensic Practitioner status. More details will follow soon. Hampshire CSIs will be amongst the first in the country to gain this fabulous accolade - in true recognition of your professionalism.
The Society is dedicated to maintaining its level of Professionalism by using only experienced assessors that have worked extensively in other forces. Your assessors, for the practical element of the competency assessment are Pete Ellis and Jim Smith. As we role this scheme out to other forces we would be keen to get Hampshire CSIs signed up as assessors to work with us in other areas of the country. Professional members of the Society are welcome to at any time.
Many of you may, understandably, feel nervous about the two knowledge check assessments. Both consist of 25 multiple choice questions and the test lasts 30 mins. Both are sat online using a system called Classmarker. About a month before your practical assessment you will be sent a link via email that you click to activate and the programme will guide you through. Simply follow the instructions - the questions are chosen at random from a bank of questions, they will be asked in a random order and the answers will also be listed differently each time the test is activated. Therefore no two tests will look exactly the same. Below is a test link for you to see the style of the question and get a feel for what these assessments will look like.
Click on the links and give them a go - you can do the trial as many time as you wish and the system will automatcally give you feedback
